When Full Mouth Rehabilitation Is Needed

There are times when a person’s teeth are in such a severe state that full mouth rehabilitation becomes necessary. Treatment in these cases can be very complex, often involving one or more specialists — a periodontist, endodontist, oral surgeon, and/or orthodontist — working alongside your restorative dentist.

Severe wear and enamel erosion
Bruxism (chronic grinding and clenching)
Extensive decay
Tooth loss
Replacement of failing dental work
A bad bite (malocclusion)
Genetically small teeth
Trauma
Tetracycline staining

A Kois Graduate Leading Your Reconstruction

Having a Kois Center graduate in Dr. McClurg here in our office makes this the ideal place to experience major dental reconstruction. Complex rehabilitation depends on understanding why a bite failed — not just replacing what broke.

Every plan begins with a comprehensive evaluation of your joints, muscles, bite, gum health, and esthetics, so the final result is engineered to last.

Full Mouth Rehabilitation FAQs

No. A smile makeover focuses primarily on appearance. Full mouth rehabilitation restores function — how your teeth meet, chew, and wear — while also improving esthetics. Many cases involve both goals.

It depends on the complexity of your case and whether specialists are involved. Some reconstructions are completed in a few months; cases requiring implants, grafting, or orthodontics can take longer. You receive a sequenced timeline before treatment begins.

No. We plan provisional (temporary) restorations so you always leave with teeth that look and function well while the final restorations are being crafted.

Portions that restore health and function — crowns, periodontal therapy, extractions — are often partially covered, while purely esthetic elements typically are not. We review your benefits and provide a clear estimate.

With good hygiene, regular maintenance visits, and a protective nightguard where indicated, well-planned restorations commonly last 15 years or longer.
